Pressing and Identifying Leaves

Collect autumn leaves, press them and stick them into a personal tree book. A fun way for children to learn about native tree species.

Children get to know native tree species and sharpen their observation skills in nature.

Materials

Step by step

  1. 1

    Collect different leaves on a walk – only one of each kind.

  2. 2

    At home, place the leaves between newspaper and weigh them down with heavy books.

  3. 3

    Press for 1–2 weeks until the leaves are dry and flat.

  4. 4

    Glue each leaf into the notebook.

  5. 5

    Use the identification book or app to identify the tree and write down its name.

  6. 6

    Note special features (leaf shape, edge, colour).
